Title: B078: Papers of Dr. John Hill Brinton (1832-1907), 1861-1865

Description:

Dr. John Hill Brinton was born May 21, 1832, in Philadelphia. He was commissioned brigade surgeon on August 3, 1861, and was ordered to report to the Department of the West at St. Louis. He served with General Grant in 1862, and was then ordered to Washington, where he helped prepare The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion. In the latter part of 1864, he was again sent to Missouri. He resigned from the army in February 1865, and died March 18, 1907, in Philadelphia.

Contains official military papers, including correspondence, invoices, receipts, and requisitions, mostly regarding hospital and medical supplies.
