Description: World War I Purple Heart medal set awarded to John Borchers for being wounded an gassed in the Argonne, October 2, 1918, consisting of: (a) Purple medal in gold with a profile of George Washington with an attached ribbon, (b) a purple and white ribbon bar, (c) a loose length of purple ribbon with white edges, (d) a black leather box that holds the set, is imprinted, in gold, with "PURPLE HEART" and has a double border on the front of the box. Th interior is lined with beige colored velvet and silk.
