Description: Painting illlustrates the 2nd Unitd States Reserve Corps (Home Guards) firing upon citizens at the Recorder's Court. In the original publication of this image in Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, June 29, 1861, the commander was mistakenly identified as Col. John McNeil. The commander of that regiment was Col. Herman Kallmann.
