Title: COMPETITION HITS EAST ST. LOUIS'S RAT ALLEY

Description: "Competition Hits East St. Louis's Rat Alley" is part of a popular series of political cartoons that premiered in the February 23, 1931 edition of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The series, which ran throughout the 1930s and in to the 1940s, focused on corruption and crime and became, according to Fitzpatrick, an institution in St. Louis. The drawings were notable for their departure from Fitzpatrick's signature style of "distilled, simple composition."
