William Kesterson was born in Greene County, Tenn. In November 1862, he was mustered in the 7th Missouri Cavalry (Union) at Lexington, Mo. He later transferred to the 1st Missouri Cavalry. He was sick at Springfield from May 1863 until his discharge in May 1865. He died November 3, 1883, in Lafayette County, Mo.

Contains letters of William Kesterson to his brother Joseph Kesterson, dated General Hospital at Springfield, February 1864 to July 1865. Also includes discharge and pension papers of Joseph Kesterson, dated 1882 to 1883.
