Title: Surveyor's Compass Used by Walter Jefferson Lewis and Clifton Carter Lewis

Description: A Keuffel & Esser Company surveyor's vernier compass in original wood box with socket for mounting to a Jacob's staff. It was used by Walter Jefferson Lewis and his son Clifton Carter Lewis when surveying tracts of land in Alabama in the early 1900s. The elder Lewis owned Pineolia resort in Citronelle, Alabama, a popular destination starting in the late 1800s because of the mineral springs.
