Description: Third Class Order of the Rising Sun awarded to Charles Lindbergh by the Emperor of Japan and presented by Japanese Communications Minister, Matajiro Koizumi September 9, 1931 in Tokyo during Col. And Mrs. Lindbergh's goodwill trip to the Orient. Third Class Order of the Rising Sun; garnet set in white enamel sunburst medallion suspended from green cloud-like form with three stylized trees in red enamel and gold; inscription in Japanese; white grosgrain ribbon with narrow red stripe at edge. Came with black lacquered wooden box with gold lacquered design and long silk rope cord with tassels. This is the highest decoration conferred by the Emperor on any airman in the world "in recognition of his outstanding service in the cause of aviation." Also accompanied by a scroll.
