Title: French Legion of Honor Medal Received by Charles Lindbergh

Description: Medal of the Chevalier de l`Ordre National de la Legion d`Honneur de France, translated as the French Legion of Honor medal, presented to Charles Lindbergh by President Gaston Doumergue May 23, 1927. This was the first of many medals Lindbergh received in recognition of his successful New York to Paris flight. This award ranks before all other awards in France and is awarded for bravery or civil achievement. The first iteration of the cross was designed by Napoleon in 1804, but the center portion was different. This particular design version was adopted in 1870. Translated to be Badge of the Order, Knight, Legion of Honor. This was the first medal Lindbergh received.
