Description: Sword presented to Francis T. Bryan for service in the Mexican War. Bryan served as a lieutenant in the Topographical Engineers and fought in the Mexican War. Afterwards he explored parts of Texas. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1850 and then to captain in 1860, resigning at the beginning of the Civil War. After the Civil War he went into business in St. Louis where he died in 1917.
