Description: The Guggenheim medal was awarded to Lindbergh in 1953 by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers, and the Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences for Lindbergh's achievements in aeronautics, specifically his 1927 flights and subsequent mapping routes. The medal was named for the Guggenheim Fund which was created in 1926 for the promotion of aeronautics. The 10K gold medal; obverse has relief of Spirit of St. Louis, balloon, and nose of dirigible above clouds with sun rays at horizon; reverse has border of mixed dots and dashes, four bird wings; b=dark blue leather case.
