supping, to Patten’s — did not see [Joseph] Richardson though.

8. Tuesday. Work on the Reveille blocks, did three smaller ones &c. Holbrook called. Out through the plashing rain. To [James P.] Nagle’s, dined, to Dickinsons, Post Office, Wells and Webb, [Cornelius] Mathews & Lockington. Return, rain still and incessant. Did one Reveille two-column. [Edwin A.] Weed called. Davis anon. At 8 or so to supper at the Reade Street shades, where in the course of the evening I met Laurie, the little “Doctor,” of [Henry] Hart’s acquaintance. Talking awhile, then to room and bed. / [Lajos] Kossuth is here back in New York again, — not thirty yards from where I write, at the Irving. The time will come when that will be something to ponder over.
