down town. To [James P.] Nagle’s. [Thomas W.] Strongs. [Cornelius] Mathews & Reveille Office. Got paid. To Lantern, dined to Lockingtons. Nagle’s again, Post Office. &c return [to 290 Broadway]. Hair abbreviated in the evening.

9. Sunday. Breakfasted delectably at the Rainbow, then crossing to Brooklyn, for Governors Island, calling on Dunsiers by the way, he seeing me to the boat. At the Hospital. Drawing part of the afternoon and evening, [Thomas] Picton’s “Sachem” title. Saw a soldiers funeral for the second time.

10. Monday. Crossed to Castle Garden in a small rain, [William] Barth accompanying. To my room, Barth left. Picton came & got his drawing. Down town to the Lantern Office. Saw [John] Brougham. Didn’t get paid.
