10. Wednesday. Down town, calls. [James P.] Nagle’s book store &c. Drawing Lantern Initials all the rest of the day. Meeting Warren Butler in at the Lantern Office, I called at his place yesterday. There he was, just the same sort of fellow, good natured, shifty and not too well off. He had got one of my little innocents to operate upon from [Joseph] Woodward. Heaven help it! / [words crossed out]

11. Thursday. Supped off half pie and milk. Lantern Initial. Made Reveille sketches. Down town to [Cornelius] Mathews. To [Thomas W.] Strongs afterwards for blocks. Met Ben Haun and his brother John in Nassau Street. They about to start a grocery Store in N Jersey. To Mc Fee’s for carpentry. To Canal
