Talk about the paper [Lantern], suggestions &c. [Frank] Bellew there. Jocularity, funniment &c. Votes as to subjects for next week. Then talk of a Club being organized which was incontinently done, and yclept the Lantern Club. Great debate as to whether Tetotallism should be the order of the day, or no, finally, it being put to the vote Alcohol was excluded, and beer [word crossed out] wine admitted. Talk with [Richard B.] Hutchings &c. Left them at about half past 10, and to [48] Franklin Street and bed.

15. Sunday. (Birthday.) Scribbling a little. Afternoon Joe [Greatbatch] and the boys [Fred and Edward Greatbatch] came. Evening went to [E.H.] Chapins, thence with Joe and Fred, whom I met there, to [174] Mulberry Street. There till nigh 11. Then made a call at Mrs [Rebecca] Kidder’s,
