Title: Thomas Butler Gunn Diaries: Volume 11, page 86, August 11-15, 1859

Description: Mentions that Frank Cahill has temporarily taken over Jesse Haney's place on the Courier while Haney is out of town.

Grace [Eldredge] "don't want to go." "She sat and read one of Cobb's stories as they journeyed through some of the most beautiful scenery, last year — made Jim [Parton] so mad!" says Mrs [Sarah] Edwards. ——

12. Friday. Drawing. Down town after dinner to Century and Pic Offices, returning Bowery way. [Frank] Cahill in [Bob] Gun's room at night. He is filling [Jesse] Haney's place on the Courier during the former's absence and don't seem to love a hard days work.

Wrote letter to Hannah [Bennett].

13. Saturday. Drawing and writing: out to Spring St Post Office. To Century Office after dinner, to P.O. returned per omnibus. To drawing again till 8. [Nathaniel] Shepherd up in Gun's room.

14. Sunday. Drawing, reading &c; Cahill up, principally in Gun's room. Out with him after dinner, with intent to go to the Central Park but the cars looked so crowded that we abandoned the idea for a loafing along the riverside wharfs, where we saw policemen taking away the clothes of boys who were bathing. Return. With Morris to Palace Garden in the evening, met Perkins, a nephew of Everett's, and another. Gun and Cahill drinking in the former's room, which they kept up till 4 A. M. I leaving them at midnight, — considerably drunk then. There's no hope whatever of reforming Cahill, relieved from temporary necessity he is as rudderless as ever.

15. Monday. Chores &c. Down town to Century
