Title: Thomas Butler Gunn Diaries: Volume 10, page 43 [newspaper clipping], 1858

Description: Newspaper clipping stating that the bribery charge against Harbor-Master Willis Patten has been dropped.

Transcription:

CHARGE AGAINST HARBOR-MASTER PATTEN.—Some time ago, it may be recollected, one N.W. Russell entered a complaint at the Mayor’s office against Capt. Willis Patten, one of the Harbor-Masters of this port, in which it was charged that he had taken, in certain cases, illegal fees. Gov. [John Alsop] King, upon investigating the charge, has dismissed the complaint and fully exonerated Capt. Patten in the premises. We make this statement in justice to a worthy and deserving man and faithful officer, who has been unjustly assailed in this matter.
