Dear Father I sit down to write you afew lines to let you know that I am well and that we have just arrived from Bawls Bluffs[Ball’s Bluff] Ark on White river we have ben gone from here 12 days and we have never have ben off of the boat since we started where we got to the Bluffs there wasent any any Rebels there they was gone to little Rock we have not got off the boat yet I dont know what we will do Dear Father this is got to be a teriable[?] this thing freeing the negro is not what I set out to do and I dont expect to fight very hard for them Father I wrote you a letter the 3 of January I have not received any answer yet I told you that we was mustered for pay the first day of Jan so we was but we have not ben paid off yet Father I cold write you a long letter if I had any place to write when you write to me direct your letters to
