st Louis Mo. Dec 21th 1862


Dear Father I sit down to write you afew lines to let you know that I am well at present and that we are now in benton Barax we left Houston the 16th of this month I got a letter from you the 13th that you wrote the 8 I was glad to hear from you I would be glad to see you all if I could we have never ben paid any money since we left here I think that we will be paid in a short time when we was at Rolla the day be fore yesterday I saw Crane he was well and at work at the old trade in the goverment shop I saw Mack Chamberlin there he was well except the sore eyes there was 24 of smarts Reg there the rest of it is there by this time they left t the rest of it at Jefferson City Mack said that all of the indian creek boys was well Father I want you to write to me and let me know how you got along with your corn so no more at present your dear son
