Dear Mary

I have an opportunity of sending this off, so I will write a few lines, I am in pretty good health, our Regt. has followed after the rebels some 20 miles, and I had remained behind, but we are going to move up the camp to-day.

I have been to Corinth, and it is beyond my power to describe the destruction of property, that was there, they burnt a good many of the houses, and in some camps the confusion and hurry were so great, that in several cases they did not ever take time to bury their dead, and in some places some were found only half buried. There is some talk, that it is thought they intend to make a stand between 20 and 30 miles from here, but I dont believe they will fight much, there are more or less of them coming in every day and giving themselves up, take the Oath & go home, I begin to flatter myself a good deal, that it will not be long till the rebellion will be put down, and I can again return to you, God speed the day.

Give my love to all. — I have been looking for a letter from you, and perhaps may get one when I get to the Regt., I got one the 1st inst., the last I got. — Hope you will still write often, Pray for me
