Dear sister I sit down to write you afew lines to let you know that I am well at present and hope that you are the same sinia this is the fifteenth day since I got on the boat we got on the boat a sunday two weeks ago and started on an expedition up White River we went up to Devalves Bluffs[Duvall’s Bluff] when we got there the Rebels was all gone we got two siege guning they was sixty-four f[?] founders we came back to Helena a friday and we have ben floating around the shore evr ever since I dont know what they are agoing to do with us we may start to Vicburg[Vicksburg] as soon as Gen. C.B. Fisk and Col. V.A. Piles come back from st Louis I dont know a souldier dont know one hour what they are agoing to do the next there is great disturbence in federal arena at this time if all old Abe does free the negro I say that the Democrats owt[ought] to go with the south and kill all the Abalitiary[?] of the north and that will end this war where nothing else will sinia I could tel you a great deal more than I can writ if I could see you sinia I want you to write all the news you can for we dont get any thing down here so no more at present your Brother untill death
