December 1th 62


Dear Father I sit down to write you afew lines to you know that I am well at present I got the letter that you wrote the 19th of Nov the 28th I wrote to you a letter the 24th the day we landed here from Heartsvil[Hartville] on the night of the 24th there was a train of wagons numbering 24 which was 20 harnesed and the rest they took away with them the Rebels number about 200 there was two armed men along with each wagon which was about 52 men there was two teamsters with each wagon but they had no guns so there was but 52 men to fight they attacted them when they was on hitching there teams some of them was lying down and some was gone after milk and some after grass so when they fired on them they was all scattered every wheres they kiled six of our men we never kiled any of that we know of we wounded one they was under Mr. Jaesan Burbage I have not mutch more to write there is some talk of us going to saint louis but I dont know when for my part when we will be there so no more at present your son until death

Dear sister I was glad to hear that Lezzer can walk I would like to see her tel Nathan and Pierce that I think I will be at home in the spring to help them work so no more at present your brother
