It is desirable that a party visit Lexington and search for state property and destroy a foundry for the manufacture of cannon which is believed to be in operation there. you will keep this in view and endeavor to execute this purpose in connexion with the strengthening of this point you will send up to Col Boerstein his companion from Jefferson Barracks retraining Maj Labolt and those disaffected towards the Col, and assign them to some other duty. Jefferson Barracks must be occupied with some other force which you may find available. Capt Callender must, if possible, remove the powder from the Magazine and relive Capt Tracy from the post. Col White of the 5th Reserve Corps Volunteers for the expedition to Lexington and authorize him to take charge of it and it must not consist of less than 500 men and the boat should have a piece of Artilery on board.

P.S. One whole Regiment is needed here and one at Jefferson City and in case one can be furnished to this point the four Companies of Col Boerstein Reg’t now here can be returned to Jefferson City — I have mentioned this before.
