Sir:


We the undersigned Senators and Representatives in Congress from the State of Missouri. do earnestly recommend and request that Capt. A.E. Steen C.S.A.[Confederate States of America] may be appointed to the rank of Brig. Genl. in the Provisional Army C.S.A.

Capt Steen was an officer of the old U.S.A. and immediately before[?] the commencement of this revolution entered the service of his state where he was raised to the rank of Brig. Genl. and did good service to our cause, and with credit to himself as an officer and soldier and is in every way in our opinions worthy of trust in the position to which we recommend him and trust he [word unclear] be appointed —
