Description: Photograph of dead Confederate soldier lying in a ditch. Head wound has been colored in with red ink. "PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY THE WAR FOR THE UNION" (printed vertically on obverse side). "WAR VIEWS Rebel Soldier killed in the trenches of Fort Mahone, called by the Soldiers 'Fort Damnation.' This View was taken the morning after the storming of Petersburg, Va., April 2d, 1865." (printed on reverse side). Three cent stamp on reverse side.
