Title: Searching for Arms. (Plate 5).

Description: Print of Union soldiers looking under bed mattress while an officer holds a Confederate flag that he points at while a woman and girl hold each other near a window. In the background are who soldiers who are holding back a man, presumably the owner of the house. Handwritten on the back: "Searching for Arms." The etching was one of ten pro-Confederate political cartoons drawn by Adalbert J. Volck in 1863 and published under the pseudonym V. Blada as "Sketches from the Civil War in North America." The initial edition of the cartoons was distributed to subscribers and was limited to 200 copies. Alternate title for this print is "Searching a Southern Home for Arms."
