Description: Bust portrait of a man in civilian clothes with a pocket pistol tucked in his vest. "John A Lighter 1841-1864" (written on reverse side). "John A Lighter Gunner in Landis battery, confederate Killed in battle of Champion Hill, Miss Photo from daguerreotype owned by Philip E. Lighter, St. Louis" (written on reverse side). John A. Lighter enlisted at Memphis, Tennessee with the 1st Brigade, Bowens Division as a private in Capt. Landis' Company of the Missouri Light Artillery. The records show he was "severely wounded" at the Battle of Lexington (digital soldier records).
