Title: John G. Bechtold, 1st Lieutenant, Company C (Union).

Description: Bust portrait of a man in uniform. "Your [sic] Truly John G. Bechtold 1st Lt. 8th Kans. Vols." (written below image). "gift of Mrs. Lewis B. Stuart Nov. 1947" (written on reverse side of image). Bechtold's company, Company C, was left behind in Kansas while the remainder of the regiment went to Corinth, Mississippi. The regiment finally reunited on Feb 22, 1863 in Nashville, where this photograph was taken (The Union Army, vol. IV 1998, 212).
