[written]" (below image). "Albert Sidney Johnson. Married Miss Preston Jan. 20-1829. Col. Of 'Davis Pet' Regiment Resigned from army, and enlisted in Rep. of Texas. Became Brig.-Gen, Gen, Commander-in-Chief, and Sec. of War of young Republic. Duel with Gen. Felix Houston - caused lameness. Killed while commanding confed. forces at Battle of Shiloh." (written on reverse side of image).
