Title: John Emil Strodtman, Lieutenant Colonel, 5th Missouri Reserve Corps, Captain Company E, 3rd Missouri Infantry (Union).

Description: Bust portrait of a man in uniform. "Lieut. Col John E. Strodtman, 5th Mo Reserve Corps 1862, Capt Co 'E' 3rd Mo Infty in 90 days service 1861" (written below image on album page). Strodtman (alternate spellings of Strodtmann, Stradtman, and Stradtmann) was a captain in the 3rd Missouri Vol. Infantry for three months of service. He was severely wounded at the battle of Carthage on July 5, 1861, and was discharged in August of that year for expiration of his term of service. Strodtman apparently re-enlisted and served as a 1st lieutenant, captain, and adjutant with the 2nd Missouri Artillery before his promotion to lieutenant colonel with the 5th Missouri Vol. Infantry on June 19, 1862.
