Title: Basil Wilson Duke, General, Kentucky Cavalry Brigade (Confederate).

Description: Bust portrait of a man in uniform. MHS stamp on image. "GEN. BASIL DUKE" (in type below image). "Basil Wilson Duke" (written on reverse side of image). Gen. Duke took command of Gen. Morgan's Kentucky Cavalry Brigade in 1864 when he was killed. He was also the leader of the "Minute Men," a secessionist paramilitary group in St. Louis and sat on the Police Board when Governor Jackson controlled the police force in St. Louis in early spring 1861 (Gerteis 2001: 90).
