Title: John Breckenridge Castleman, General (Confederate).

Description: Bust portrait of a man in uniform. "For Bro. David. [?] Very Truly Yours G. B. Castleman. general in C.S.A. gift of Mrs. Pearle G. Jones 1955" (written on reverse side of image). Gen. Castleman led the Northwest Conspiracy, a failed attempt to free Confederate prisoners at Camp Douglas near Chicago. He also let a guerilla force to burn supply boats at St. Louis. He was captured in Indiana in 1864 and sentenced to death, but was spared by President Lincoln and deported to France.
