Title: Main building of City Hospital in 1910.

Description: View of the main building of the old City Hospital on Lafayette Avenue near Grattan Street (Truman Parkway). The building that sits on Lafayette St., which is now known as City Hospital, is actually the third structure known by that name. City Hospital was founded in 1845 as a response to the massive Cholera epidemics sweeping the city in the 1830’s and 1840’s. It burned down in 1856, and was rebuilt in 1872, but was destroyed by the tornado of 1896. The Georgian Revival building you see now was completed in 1910 and was designed by Albert Groves, who was famous for designing public and commercial buildings.
