Description: Residence of Mr. and Mrs. William Spencer Pope, which was located at 3625 Lindell Boulevard. William Spencer Pope was born in 1837, a son of English immigrants who eventually settled in Illinois. Pope served with Illinois troops during the Civil War, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, Pope worked at a lawyer in St. Louis and served in both houses of the Missouri Legislature. In 1866 Pope married Caroline E. Moore, and had three children, including William Spencer Pope, Jr, a Yale graduate who went on to practice law in St. Louis.
