Description: View of Seventh Street looking north toward Cerre Street. Men and children gathered along Seventh Street looking north toward Cerre Street. Advertising promotes the political campaign in support of Rolla Wells. Rolla Wells served as St. Louis’s mayor from 1901-1909, including the 1904 Worlds Fair. Wells ran on the platform of “New St. Louis” targeting some the cities infrastructure problems, including cleaner drinking water, cleaner air, greener public spaces and public bath houses. After his two terms of mayor, Wells held other civic offices including positions at the Federal Reserve Bank, the Democratic National Committee, and the United Railways Company.
