Description: Northwest corner of Seventh and Pine Street showing the Oliver A. Hart Residence. A horse and wagon can be seen down the street and a woman with a cloth over her head can be seen in one of the entryways. Born in Connecticut in 1814, Oliver Hart came to St. Louis in 1837. Hart partnered with Augustus Brewster in the architectural firm of Brewster and Hart, and was the firm credited with rebuilding St. Louis after the great fire in 1849. After retiring from architecture Hart remained a leading businessman in St. Louis, being one of the organizers of Mechanics Bank and the Pacific Railroad. Hart also served as president of the Western Mutual Fire and Marine Insurance Company and was director of the St. Louis Gas Company.
