Title: Garavelli's Restaurant, DeBaliviere and DeGiverville Avenue/Pershing Avenue.

Description: Garavelli's Restaurant, 5701 DeGiverville Avenue. At the northwest corner of DeBaliviere Avenue and DeGiverville Avenue/Pershing Avenue. Garavelli's Restaurant was a popular destination for locals, tourists, and students from nearby Washington University. The restaurant was established in 1914 by Joseph Garavelli, a 19-year old Italian immigrant. During Prohibition Garavelli transformed the business from a saloon and sandwich shop to a full-service restaurant. The restaurant is remembered for its ornate dйcor which included balconies, murals, a fountain, and a crystal chandelier. The business changed ownership several times after Garavelli retired in 1941. Stan Musial and his business partner, Julius “Biggie” Garagnani, owned Garavelli's during the 1950s. The restaurant closed in 1974 and was later razed.
