Title: Arthur G. Sellenriek Collection: World War II Army Air Corps

Description: Arthur George Sellenriek (1908 - 1989) was drafted into the Army Air Corps in late 1942 and received training at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri and Metropolitan Technical School in New York City before being sent to England in November 1943 as an electrical engineer with the 904th Signal Corps. Corporal Sellenriek reached the level of Fourth Grade Technician before being honorably discharged in November 1945. After the war, he returned to his home in Clayton and his wife Marie Louise Sellenriek (1910 - 1993; nee Hartmann). The Sellenriek's had one daughter, Anna Ray Sellenriek (b. 1948). Despite his military training as an electrician, Sellenriek opted to continue his pre-war career as a gardener working for Sid Salomon, Bettendorf-Rapp Super Market, Schnucks Super Market, and Elm Lawn Cemetery until his retirement. The Arthur G. Sellenriek collection contains sixty-six snapshots documenting Sellenriek's overseas experience. Most of the photos are of his companions (most identified only by first or nick names), views of army barracks, and airplanes. See also the MHS Archives Arthur and Marie Sellenriek Papers.
