Title: Weld Poster Collection: World War I

The Weld Poster Collection contains 96 French and American World War I posters, dating ca. 1914-1921. Mrs. Mary Etta Weld née Randolph donated the Collection to the Missouri Historical Society in April 1972.

The majority of the posters were published in France, with three posters published in the United States of America. The Collection represents multiple French and American artists; recurring artists include Louis Abel-Truchet, Abel Faivre, and Théophile Alexandre Steinlen. The posters document French and American propaganda during and after World War I. The Collection particularly covers advertisements encouraging the purchase and sale of war bonds and loans to fund the War; advertisements for expositions, fundraisers, and other similar fund raising or war effort events; and enlistment posters for the French army and the U.S. navy.
